Duty exemption can be granted, provided the following conditions are met:

  1. The importer must have resided outside the European Union (EU) for a minimum of one year.
  2. The vehicle must have been purchased outside the EU and driven for at least six months before importation.
  3. The importer must be a registered German citizen.
  4. The vehicle is intended for personal use exclusively.
  5. The importer must retain ownership of the vehicle for at least one year following its importation.
  6. If the vehicle is imported for a temporary period of up to 12 months, it can be driven with foreign license plates and registration. A registration document with a German translation is required. For longer stays, the vehicle must be registered with the local Kfz-Zulassungsstelle.

The UK is a right-hand drive country and allows the importation of both left-hand drive and right-hand drive vehicles.

Documents Needed for Importation:

  1. Bill of Lading (BOL)
  2. Purchase Invoice from the supplier indicating the vehicle owner.
  3. Deregistration Certificate.
  4. Original Proof of Identification.
  5. Trader’s Unique Reference Number (TURN) for Commercial Importers.
  6. Driver’s license or an original document verifying the name.
  7. Utility bill or another original document as address confirmation.
  8. Motor insurance from a British company.
  9. Vehicle tax cost.
