Import VAT is levied on behalf of the VAT Division and is imposed on imported goods subject to VAT. VAT is calculated based on the Taxable Value, which includes Customs Value, Customs Duty, and Excise Duty where applicable, at a rate of 16%.

Carbon Emission Surtax applies to all motor vehicles being imported, as well as those visiting and transiting. It is an annual charge for vehicles already within the country, and the rate varies based on the engine capacity of the vehicle:

  1. For vehicles with an engine capacity of 1500cc or under, the Surtax rate is 50,000.
  2. Vehicles with an engine capacity between 1501cc and 2000cc have a Surtax rate of 100,000.
  3. Vehicles with an engine capacity between 2001cc and 3000cc incur a Surtax rate of 150,000.
  4. Vehicles with an engine capacity of 3001cc or more are subject to a Surtax rate of 200,000.

There are no limitations regarding the age of used Japanese cars for import.

  1. Original Title and Registration Certificate: The authentic document confirming vehicle ownership and registration.
  2. Commercial or Purchase Invoice: This document should include details such as the purchase date and the vehicle’s price.
  3. Driver’s License and International Insurance Policy (Green Card): Proof of a valid driver’s license and international insurance coverage.
  4. Original Bill of Lading and Non-Sale Certificate: The original shipping document and a certificate confirming that the vehicle is not intended for sale.
  5. Employer’s Letter of Transfer: A formal letter from the client’s employer detailing the vehicle transfer.
  6. Valuation Certificate: A certificate providing an assessment of the vehicle’s value.

These documents are essential for various purposes, including customs clearance and vehicle registration. Make sure to have both the original documents and any necessary copies when required.
